One of the stand-outs from the Markson weekend (London Tennis Camp - August) is the quality of the coaches. Unlike some other tennis holidays where the coaches are simply on a year out, Markson likes to hire fully qualified teaching pros with years of experience. You can ask the most difficult of questions and you know they will have an answer. More importantly for me, you can ask the most basic of questions and they will take time to work with you. I was struggling with my double-handed backhand and one of the coaches took 20 minutes with me to go over all the fundamentals (grip, body position, footwork etc) to ensure I was comfortable. For us, the set-up at the Jonathan Markson Tennis Centre in the Algarve works perfectly. Three hours of tennis tuition every morning, then the rest of the day free to do as much or as little as you wish.
It’s a low-key affair, a world away from the big centres like Val da Lobo or Forte Village, but one that works very well. There are five courts in total, three of them brand new this year. Coaching groups are a maximum of six people, although often fewer, which means the tuition is really tailored to each individual. (Read the full article)

I came away with a reconstructed serve that has come along no end. The coaching was deceptively easy-going and the drills were enormous fun. everyone on the course felt they had progressed.

It was clear that, while the coaching was seriously intensive on this course, the social side counted for almost as much. in no time at all the social bonding was becoming firmly fixed. did our tennis benefit from the course? certainly.

From my experience of attending both the oxford tennis camp and algarve tennis centre, Jonathan Markson Tennis tends to acquire talented coaches with a sense of humour – and thus hard work is disguised as a lot of fun.

It was encouraging how quickly the coaches could single out flaws.

The coaching is done through a variety of exercises, drill and consultation breaks, so people have constant stimulation and a good deal of fun.

It was all great fun, but between the good-natured banter, an expert analytical eye was at play, correcting obvious faults and praising our better strokes... A lot of laughter mixed with serious endeavour. This was our first experience of a group holiday and we enjoyed it thoroughly.

The views over the famous luz bay are stunning, the cottage-style apartments excellently appointed and the climate pretty much perfect. Walking the cobbled streets of this old fishing village at night, one is struck by the timelessness of the place... Whether you are a of beginner, intermediate or advanced standard your game is guaranteed to improve. the coaches see to that.
