Really enjoyed the tennis experience (the guys were great!) and the region is fantastic. Have some criticisms about the food and beds. In a region which prides itself on the freshness of its food and quality of its coffee, it was very disappointing to find neither in the Luz Bay hotel. The whole breakfast experience was made worse by the 90's power ballads on a constant loop. Also, my bed was 'lumpy'.
Thank you for taking time to give feedback. We are so pleased you enjoyed the tennis. We are sorry to hear about your issues with the bed and breakfast. We have passed your comments (not your name) on to the hotel management but would also like to take this opportunity to encourage guests to mention these issues with the staff as we have in the past found them to be extremely accommodating. If your issues do not get resolved whilst on your holiday then you can always email us and we will try and help.
This was a great experience. I had a wonderful time and learned so much. Luis and Vasco were excellent and very patient with me. I would certainly book another holiday with Jonathan Markson Tennis.
The only negative was the quality of the food at the hotel. It was terrible. The hotel was kept very clean but is looking a little tired and could do with a bit of refresh. If I returned to play tennis here I would definitely consider staying at a different hotel or in self catering.
Thank you so much. We hope to see you again in the future. We have lots of great venues to explore from the clay courts in Mallorca to the grass courts of Cambridge University!
Service from Luca at Jonathan Markson team was excellent and coach Mike provided great coaching, it was just a shame there weren't more players on the course.
I very much enjoyed the week, Vasco and Luis are good coaches and the resort was ok as usual.
Thank you :)
A really enjoyable week of tennis. Really nice coaches. Only point to make I was surprised that the Friday afternoon tennis tournament we were charged for and not included in the price of the holiday. Overall I would definitely go on another tennis holiday.
excellent coaches, good organisation in a good location.
The coaching was inconsistent - some coaches much better than others, all had different techniques and didn't really seem to be working as a team. Simon was outstanding, Jonathan poor. The lunches were not good!
Thank you for your feedback. We have had some fantastic reviews during the year for our Clinics which we love to hear but we also need to hear when we don't get it quite right. Your comments are taken onboard and we have already made changes for 2017 that address them. Thank you.
It lived up to my expectations!
Great tennis and coaching with a bunch of great people.
Had a great time! I got lucky - I was in a group of 5 who were all of a similar standard. Others were not so lucky.
On the positive side I got some good tips on technique and tactics from the coaches and I liked the focus on tactical play.
On the negative side whilst I thought our coach (Michel) was very knowledgeable about the game and helped me in a few areas, he seemed to want to do his own thing rather than follow the programme Erwan had set out. This led to some silly situations where we started working on something for a few minutes and then we'd suddenly move on to something else after Erwan had a word with Michel. In addition, there were occasions where I did not feel Michel acted very professionally.
Thank you for your feedback. We are pleased that you felt you received some good tips on the technical and tactical side. We will review the situation you detailed and ensure that it is not repeated.
Luca was very kind and helpful with me and because of illness I have moved my tennis until next year.
Great coaching from Luis and the team. Really good specific instruction, fun drills and lots of points played as well. As always we had lots of fun. Luis showed us to 2 lovely local restaurants and the hotel is perfect for a week of tennis. Will be returning next year, again.
Perfect surroundings, excellent approachable coaching (Luis, Ricardo,Vasco & Miguel). Kept it simple and idiot proof! We'll definitely be back next year with hopefully, a few more club members.
Super coaching on all 5 days. I have been going for a number of years and I thought all coaches were excellent.
Lovely accomodation in Baia and Luiz's dinner was fab.
My sister's first visit and she loved it. Thank you.
Generally a very well organised holiday. Great coaching, and a good standard of play from all. Sometimes the coaching could be a little more focused, balancing the right amount of comedy with just getting on and hitting balls, but in general this isn't an issue and there is a lot of fun to be had. Beautiful location and weather almost guaranteed - highly recommended!
We had a brilliant time. Luis & Vasco are just fantastic. Wouldn't go anywhere else
Organizzazione perfetta. Circolo tennis gestito bnissimo livello ottimo.
c étais très bien
Klim had good practice and a lot of friends!!!
Great accommodation in Baia da Luz, but sun loungers would be a good addition for the balcony
Excellent holiday, most enjoyable. Good facilities and accommodation, nice things to do in the area, great tennis - thank you very much!
Louise, Vasha and Ricardo are great coaches. They look to teach you the little things that have the best improvement with your game. As it is a holiday also they are on hand to give you advice on where its best to go.
Excellent service - quick response to booking enquiry, clarifications & amendments to original booking. Very friendly & approachable. Lucca designed a package for me which covered Mon to Mon. This is my second tennis holiday with JM Tennis & would not hesitate to recommend JM Tennis for a rewarding & fun holiday. I was also given an accommodation upgrade when I arrived at the hotel which was a real bonus - I think Lucca influenced this!!
Thank you so much. We are so pleased to hear you enjoyed your tennis holiday in Lake Garda. Luca is delighted that he could help you out and appreciated your comments.
Strong instruction, small class, good location. Courts in reasonably good shape.
One of the stand-outs from the Markson weekend (London Tennis Camp - August) is the quality of the coaches. Unlike some other tennis holidays where the coaches are simply on a year out, Markson likes to hire fully qualified teaching pros with years of experience. You can ask the most difficult of questions and you know they will have an answer. More importantly for me, you can ask the most basic of questions and they will take time to work with you. I was struggling with my double-handed backhand and one of the coaches took 20 minutes with me to go over all the fundamentals (grip, body position, footwork etc) to ensure I was comfortable. The 50 best ways to improve yourself - "this is a fun activity holiday," says olivia macleod, veteran of jonathan markson tennis camps in both oxford and the algarve. in a group of six she enjoyed mornings of tuition from excellent coaches and endured revealing video analysis of her game. she left fitter and infinitely more proficient.
For us, the set-up at the Jonathan Markson Tennis Centre in the Algarve works perfectly. Three hours of tennis tuition every morning, then the rest of the day free to do as much or as little as you wish.
It’s a low-key affair, a world away from the big centres like Val da Lobo or Forte Village, but one that works very well. There are five courts in total, three of them brand new this year. Coaching groups are a maximum of six people, although often fewer, which means the tuition is really tailored to each individual. (Read the full article)
I came away with a reconstructed serve that has come along no end. The coaching was deceptively easy-going and the drills were enormous fun. everyone on the course felt they had progressed.
It was clear that, while the coaching was seriously intensive on this course, the social side counted for almost as much. in no time at all the social bonding was becoming firmly fixed. did our tennis benefit from the course? certainly.

Physically the camp is demanding but not exhausting. i did learn a lot. i had a great deal of fun.
By the end of the week i was still cursing loose forehands, double faults and fluffed volleys but i had improved almost every aspect of my game – and my confidence.
British Airways Magazine
From my experience of attending both the oxford tennis camp and algarve tennis centre, Jonathan Markson Tennis tends to acquire talented coaches with a sense of humour – and thus hard work is disguised as a lot of fun.
It was encouraging how quickly the coaches could single out flaws.
Serve and Volley Magazine
The coaching is done through a variety of exercises, drill and consultation breaks, so people have constant stimulation and a good deal of fun.
Chris Bauers (Eurosport)
It was all great fun, but between the good-natured banter, an expert analytical eye was at play, correcting obvious faults and praising our better strokes... A lot of laughter mixed with serious endeavour. This was our first experience of a group holiday and we enjoyed it thoroughly.
The views over the famous luz bay are stunning, the cottage-style apartments excellently appointed and the climate pretty much perfect. Walking the cobbled streets of this old fishing village at night, one is struck by the timelessness of the place... Whether you are a of beginner, intermediate or advanced standard your game is guaranteed to improve. the coaches see to that.
